Tilt the casualties head back, look in the mouth and lift the chin to open the airway

Tap the casualty gently if they do not answer you

Make a decision whether the casualty is conscious by calling them

Stand still and look around you very carefully to see what has happened

Check for dangers to yourself and to others

Check for breathing by putting your ear next to their mouth and listening

Check for any severe blood loss

Look at their chest to see if it is moving
